Jim Hughes was teammates with Jo-Jo White on the 1950 Hollywood Stars (AAA affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers). White began his playing career in 1928.

The first baseball Jim Hughes I knew was a Twins pitcher in the mid-1970s, so when I found out about this Jim Hughes I thought maybe that Twins pitcher had been throwing since the '50s and it was the same guy.

Looking at his baseball reference page, that would've made him at least 35 when he decided to become a firefighter. You'll not find many modern guys that would take up that job, at that age.
